What We Believe
DOCTRINAL STATEMENT
SÉMINAIRE DE THÉOLOGIE ÉVANGÉLIQUE DE PORT-AU-PRINCE (STEP)
- We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are
verbally inspired by God, without error in the original writings; that the
Bible is the final and supreme authority for faith and for life (II Tim.
3:16, 17; II Pet. 1:20, 21; Ps. 19:8).
- We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons equally
omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Gen.
1:1, 26; Matt. 3:16, 17; 28:19; John 10:30; 14:16).
- We believe that Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, is truly God and
truly man. He lived a perfect life, and His death is the sufficient
atonement for the sin of the world. He was raised from the dead and is now
seated at the right hand of God where He is the unique mediator and high
priest for all believers (Isa. 7:14; Luke 1:35; I Pet. 2:24).
- We believe in the personal, physical and imminent return of Jesus
Christ. The church, which is His body, will be raised to meet Him in the air
prior to the Great Tribulation and the establishment of His millennial reign
(I Thess. 4:13-18).
- We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person; that He convicts men of
sin; that He baptizes those who believe in the Savior at the moment of their
conversion; that He leads them into all truth; that He dwells in every
believer to guide them in a life of victory over sin; that He seals them
unto the day of redemption; and that He grants to believers spiritual gifts,
some of which, such as the gifts of healings and speaking in tongues, were
temporary (John 16:7-15; Rom. 8:9; I Cor. 2:9-14; 6:19, 20; 12:1-30;
13:8-11; 14:20-23; Eph. 1:13, 14).
- We believe in the reality of Satan, that he is a person, the enemy of
God and of men (Job 1:6, 7); that he is not all powerful and that his fate
is sealed.
- We believe that man was created innocent, but that by a voluntary act of
sin, physical and spiritual death were extended to all mankind. Man is
entirely unable to save himself, but by the sacrifice of Christ he may be
saved and justified by faith (Rom. 3:23, 24; Acts 13:38, 39).
- We believe in the eternal security and happiness of the redeemed (John
10:28, 29; 17:24; Rom. 8:18).
- We believe in the eternal punishment of the lost in the lake of fire
which has been prepared for the devil and his angels (Rev. 20:11-15).
- We believe that the church, the body of which Christ is the head, was
formed on the Day of Pentecost and is composed of all who believe from that
day until the return of Christ in the air. This church, as the bride of
Christ, must glorify Him continually, seeking to make disciples of all
nations by the proclamation of the Word (Eph. 1:3-6, 22, 23; I Cor.
12:12-14; Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 1:8; 2:42-47).
